On Wednesday night, Track Owner Charlie Hansen, GM William Brown, and Asst. GM Andrew Tyree announced the early end of the 2024 NASCAR Regional season in a Facebook Live video.
Due to persistent heavy rain on most Friday nights from mid-July through mid-September, the management of Wake County Speedway had to reluctantly announce that they were unable to organize a "final" race for bragging rights.
So how did we get here?
During the period from July 12th to September 13th, "America's Favorite Bullring" experienced five rainouts, but only two of them could be rescheduled on the predetermined rain dates (July 26th and August 16th).
During the middle of the season, the speedway tried to schedule a rain date for September 20th, but unfortunately, there were too many scheduling conflicts for that day. Following the last rainout on September 13th, Hansen and his team had to search for another suitable date, possibly on a Saturday, outside of the NASCAR Regional points season, which concludes on Sunday, September 22nd.
Regrettably, attempting to reschedule the ultimate "Championship Night" for the final track points turned out to be unfeasible from a logistical standpoint. (Please refer to our Facebook Live video from 9/18/24 for a detailed explanation). https://www.facebook.com/share/v/4bJfCKGmNsbvhkzP/
"We appreciate our race teams, advertising partners, staff, vendors, and fans for their understanding of the difficulties we faced in the last part of the season and our efforts to deal with the current situation," said Hansen in Wednesday night's video announcement.
Starting with the publication of the 2025 race season schedule, and in the future, Wake County Speedway will incorporate an "end-of-season" rain make-up date. Race participants and staff will need to make sure to mark this date on their calendars in case it is needed to finalize the regular season points championship.
Wake County Speedway would like to express its gratitude to the outstanding division title sponsors who have shown their support for the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series in 2024: LeithCars.com, Zaxby's of Fuquay-Varina, NC Driveline, Gardner Roofing & Construction Inc., and 947 QDR.
Awards for track achievements and championship trophies will be presented at the Championship Banquet, taking place at the Pavilion at Carriage Farm, 1913 Pagan Rd., on Friday, November 1st. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance through MyRacePass.
